THE MEANING OF

FASHION

In this course, which focuses on the philosophical world, I was asked to choose one sentence from a random text. The sentence I chose is "this is the first time the artificial is facing the common and not the rare." During the thought of the trial, I was asked what is common, what is rare and especially what is artificial today? From there, I came up with my inspiration for this project, artificial intelligence.

AI is defined as anything technological and considered intelligent and similar to a human brain. My research focuses on the encounter between artificial intelligence and the visual - aesthetic fashion world.

I wondered where artificial intelligence could affect aesthetics and design. During my search for accessible AI, I found a site that shows the faces of completely normative people, but these people are not real and their image is a full product of AI. At the same time, I read an article on the Calcalist website reviewing the sale of a portrait called "The Portrait of Edmund Bellamy," created by AI from a total of 15,000 portraits from the 14th century to the present day, and sold for 430,000$ at auction in October 2018. This work clarified the encounter Between artificial intelligence and art today, and how it can find its way into the fashion world as well. In order to understand how to design artificial intelligence, I studied its properties and how it works.

I learned that AI works by learning and memorizing data, and from there promotes things to a new product.

Looking back at the site where I was exposed to non-existent people, I thought how to design clothes for these people?

The answer was hidden beneath my previous sketchbook pages. In the sketches which I illustrated but did not perform - thus there were clothes that did not exist. From this clarification, I combined these sketches together and found my characteristics as a designer, which produced a new and challenging product.

Deciphering the sketches for wearable and practical clothing items challenged me and led me to create a collection of textiles and colors derived from collages, along with contemporary and relevant fashion.
